The Garden

It is said that Adam and Eve began in a garden
A state of paradise, perfect happiness they knew
But innocence expired as knowledge was gained
Regret would follow and the ache of sorrow too

And so too did I know a magnificent garden
With hope and happiness, no sense of true pain
No shortage of great aspirations for the future
In my life dreams and confidence used to reign

But change did things, both big and small
Up went down, every purpose became another
Ignorance was stripped, my youth taken away
One fateful day, with the passing of my mother

Now I understand that everything can be lost
Loved ones simply taken, no rhyme or reason
Everyday is darker, things just aren't the same
Not living, not loving, not any event, or season

I offer this warning with the best of intentions
I encourage you to treasure loved ones everyday
Hug and love them as if there is no tomorrow
Because one day your garden will be taken away

This poem is so true, it reflects exactly the way I have felt since the loss of my mother . Don't ever take anyone for granted. Love them each day and tell them so. I now do.
