Two young
women reading the newspaper
Discussed the contents with utter disdain
They couldn't believe the loss of compassion
They refused to accept the cycle of pain
So a pact
was the result to make a difference
And in exactly a year's time return and explain
The vital impact each had made in the world
Concrete reasoning their living was not in vein
Three hundred
and sixty-five days to the day
One's spirit and motivation had completely wane
She asserted I required more funding and support
There wasn't time for a difference she complain
Because
of my results the second woman offered
My passion and energy requires effort to contain
Within a week I had visited my ill grandmother,
Reached a teenager, and a man in cold and rain
But our
commitment was to change the world
The first interrupted, her anguish harder to retain
Your deeds represent simple acts of kindness
But to a world impact they simply do not pertain
Convince
my friend's daughter was the response
Angry with parents and rules she didn't entertain
Experimenting with drugs, sex and a bad crowd
I depicted the likely future, her way she's regain
Or the man
I befriended looking for spare change
Due to a family feud vowed homeless he'd remain
I gave phone money and asked what he had to lose
Since someone told me he was back home again
And of course
my visit to my grandmother's sick bed
Short of time as a result of a tumor in her brain
My intent was to comfort her for possibly the last time
But surprisingly it was I who realized the gain
This life
is never long enough she opened up to me
We're always searching for meaning we can't obtain
But the key is in simple acts of kindness for others
Those acts result in other acts allowing love to reign
So don't
complain and think things can't get better
And from limiting doubts or excuses always refrain
Everyday endeavor to practice simple acts of kindness
Benefactors will then practice, to complete the chain
It was the
last lesson she would ever teach me
And an integral part of me it will always remain
Since that visit everyday I change the world a little
When I initiate another simple acts campaign
The two
women agreed to meet in another year
Both assured this time of success they would attain
Their good-bye however was cut off abruptly
They rushed off to help a man who dropped his cane
